Position

I am committed, without equivocation, to America's heritage of freedom:

*   individual liberty and personal responsibility
*   a free-market economy of abundance and prosperity
*   peace, free trade, and minimal government intervention

Thomas Jefferson has stated this eloquently and succinctly, in the Declaration of Independence: Declaration of Independence
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. That to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.
Principled Approach

As Maricopa County Attorney, I would apply the following specific principles and approaches to performing my duties:

  • conduct the affairs of the office entrusted to me strictly according to libertarian principles and within constitutional and lawful limits
  • act so as to maintain the independence of the legislative from the executive and judicial branches of government, and to be a check thereon
  • honor, respect and protect the rights of the individual, including our Arizona and U.S. Constitutional Rights
  • operate with efficiency to reduce the burden on public funds; I am committed to minimize the costs of maintaining the office, helping you to keep your money in your pockets; I am committed to assuring that every dollar spent is in the best interests of the citizens, to reducing waste, eliminating all non-essential and unconstitutional expenses, increasing efficiency in exercising constitutional duties, and being accountable
  • serve with integrity and honor, that is, my firm promise to adhere to these principles and honestly serve the public, without compromise, and my pledge that I will resign before I would go back on any of these promises

Issues Specific to the Office of the Maricopa County Attorney

The Maricopa County Attorney is, in many ways, the most powerful office in Maricopa County.

Problems in Maricopa County Attorney

But, in recent years, as you are likely well aware, there have been many problems which can be traced directly back to Maricopa County Attorney. Uncontrolled spending, special interests, waste, fraud, abuse, and much, much more. It all boils down to an inexcusable lack of integrity on the part of elected officials. While some may go to Washington with the best of intentions, soon enough, they break any and all campaign promises, and violate their oaths, in spirit if not in fact.

In short, the lack of backbone among most elected officials, to adhere to their promises, to their oaths, and to the clear constitutional limits, has brought nothing short of disaster. Law, Honor, and Justice itself have been compromised.

Voters are the Solution

The only solution that can maintain the highest standards of conduct among elected officials, is to elect citizens who can meet the necessary expectations, and not merely re-elect career politicians time and again. If the citizenry are interested, involved, and in charge, Maricopa County Attorney will toe the line. If the citizenry are apathetic, or concerned only with mere words and appearances, we will only get more of what we have gotten. Rest assured, I'm not interested in making a career out of serving in public office.

  • be always available during regular hours
  • communciate regularly and inexpensively, using computer technology and the internet
  • make use of technology to reduce costs
  • most of all, administer the office as a service to the People, fairly, honestly, and with compassion
